Operative Rehabilitation |

After
surgery, particularly Orthopaedic surgery, much work is often required
from the patient to restore mobility and use, and combined with
the appropriate rehabilitative therapy it can create a rapid and
complete recovery that does not leave any lingering weakness. Osteopaths
can use their unique manipulative skills along with exercise-based
rehabilitation and the use of therapy machines to help create this
rapid total resolution. Any tissue that is separated surgically
from itself or other tissues it was joined to heals with an inflammatory
process of scar tissue formation that is our method of wound healing,
this can however fail to be re-absorbed or even continue with unnecessary
growth, both these being a common cause of post-operative pain and
restriction that can detract from the success of the operation.
The unique manipulative hand skills of an Osteopath can create re-absorption
of this scarring and replacement by the correct tissue type for
that area.
The
practitioners at the Carlton Clinic are trained to refer to and
work with consultants and doctors and regularly do so.
The
Carlton Clinic runs exercise classes specifically designed for those
with injuries or other restrictions requiring a safer level of professionally
and personally supervised rehabilitation for their problems, creating
low cost control of pain with increased mobility and strength. Osteopaths
have prescribed various forms of exercise in their modern history
since the 1800's in conjunction with their other skills, some of
the best known exercise forms currently known have spawned from
these basing themselves on their ability to create increased mobility,
strength and fitness, whilst controlling pain, all in a safe controlled
manner.
